Did You Know That Vitamin C Can Treat Over 30 Major Diseases?

By Andrew Saul, PhD

Vitamin C has been known to cure over 30 major disease for over 50 years. But why haven't you heard more about it?  Why haven't more doctors used Vitamin C as medicine?

Progress takes time, unfortunately. Fresh fruit was known to cure scurvy by 1753, yet governments ignored the fact for nearly 100 years. Countless thousands died in the meantime. The 19th century doctor who first advocated washing one's hands between patients died ignored and in disgrace with the medical profession. Toxic mercury was used as medicine into the twentieth century. And so it has been.

The first physician to aggressively use vitamin C to cure diseases was Frederick R. Klenner, M.D. beginning back in the early 1940's. Dr. Klenner consistently cured chicken pox, measles, mumps, tetanus and polio with huge doses of the vitamin. While vaccines are now available for these illnesses, please remember this was not the case in the 1940's.

The following is a list of the conditions that Dr. Klenner successfully treated with aggressive vitamin C therapy:

  •     Pneumonia
  •     Encephalitis
  •     Herpes Zoster (shingles)
  •     Herpes Simplex
  •     Mononucleosis
  •     Pancreatitis
  •     Hepatitis
  •     Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
  •     Bladder Infection
  •     Alcoholism
  •     Arthritis
  •     Some Cancers
  •     Leukemia
  •     Atherosclerosis
  •     Ruptured Intervertebral Disc
  •     High Cholesterol
  •     Corneal Ulcer
  •     Diabetes
  •     Glaucoma
  •     Schizophrenia
  •     Burns and secondary infections
  •     Heat Stroke
  •     Radiation Burns
  •     Heavy Metal Poisoning (Mercury, Lead)
  •     Venomous Bites (insects, snakes)
  •     Multiple Sclerosis
  •     Chronic Fatigue
  •     Complications of Surgery
This seems like an impossible list of vitamin C cures. At this point, you can either dismiss the subject or investigate further. Dr. Klenner chose to investigate. The result? He used massive doses of vitamin C for over forty years of family practice. He wrote dozens of medical papers on the subject.  A complete list of them is in the Clinical Guide to the Use of Vitamin C, edited by Lendon H. Smith, M.D., Life Sciences Press, Tacoma, WA (1988).

It is difficult to ignore his success, but it has been done. Dr. Klenner wrote: "Some physicians would stand by and see their patient die rather than use ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) because in their finite minds it exists only as a vitamin."

Vitamin C is remarkably safe even in enormously high doses. Compared to commonly used prescription drugs, side effects are virtually nonexistent. It does not cause kidney stones. In fact, vitamin C increases urine flow and favorably lowers the pH  to help keep stones from forming.
William J. McCormick, M.D. used vitamin C since the late 1940's to prevent and treat kidney stones. Vitamin C does not significantly raise oxalate levels, and uric acid stones have never resulted from its use, either. Said Dr. Klenner: "The ascorbic acid/kidney stone story is a myth."

How much vitamin C is an effective therapeutic dose? Dr. Klenner gave up to 300,000 milligrams (mg) per day. Generally, he gave 350 to 700 mg per kilogram body weight per day. That is a lot of Vitamin C.

But then again, look at that list of successes.

Dr. Klenner emphasized that small amounts do not work. He said, "If you want results, use adequate ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)."

If you want to learn more about the therapeutic uses of vitamin C, the following books are best:

  • How To Live Longer and Feel Better, by Linus Pauling, Ph.D., (Freeman, 1986)
  • The Healing Factor: Vitamin C Against Disease, by Irwin Stone (Putnam, 1972)
  • The Vitamin C Connection, by Emanuel Cheraskin, M.D. et al (Harper and Row, 1983)
  • Clinical Guide to the Use of Vitamin C, by Lendon H. Smith, M.D. (cited above)

I have had breast cancer and I did the IV with Vitamin C. I have been cancer free for over a year now. I swear by it.

We use IV Vitamin C in our clinic in Tampa. It is nothing short of miraculous. However, if you try to talk to a conventional doctor, they know nothing about it and can be highly dismissive and even rude. One day the current treatments of cancer will be considered malpractice.

Make sure, if you're going to get this treatment that your doctor tests your G6PD enzyme first. That's the only precaution that needs to be taken, since lack of the enzyme can cause breakage of all your red blood cells.

I have been cancer free for 2 years after eating an organic diet and doing IV Vit C. I too believe that the current standards will be looked upon as malpractice in the near future. Thank you to Food Matters for helping to bring this topic to the surface where it belongs.

I have had MS for 24 years now but am always looking at alternative ways to help myself. Can anyone tell me how often I would need the IV vitamin C and the dosage. I am very encouraged by this article and am keen to give it a go. From Beverly NZ

Beverley you need to find a practitioner in NZ to help you. If you go through a college that teaches Naturopathy they may be able to assist you to find someone to help you. In Australia it is illegal to use IV Vit C treatments. All the best...

It is always a pleasure reading and learning about these articles. I am a surviving pancreatic cancer patient . My cancer was diagnose 6 years ago. I wish I knew then what I know now but nothing before it time. I am on a organic diet and so far I am ok but if my cancer were to resurface I will try the vit c. Instead of going that horribly ordeal of chemo. I love Food Matters. Mp NY

The people who know me call me "Mr. Vitamin C Man" because I offer Sodium Ascorbate Vitamin C. Ever since I came to know Dr. Linus Pauling in 2002, he has become my hero in supplementation. I have recommended to integrative doctors here patients who suffer from cancer and are being administered intravenous Vit. C of up to 100 grams per feeding. Because Vit. C is the mother of all vitamins, a network marketing co. here set up in 2004 has over 700,000 members in promoting just sodium ascorbate alone. It affects more than 300 metabolic functions in the body. Dr. Linus Pauling and his predecessors Fred Klenner and Irwin Stone are our heroes in the use of Vitamin C. Vic

I had a colectomy a few years ago and wish I had known of IV Vitamin C therapy. My yearly routine colonoscopy showed signs of early stage cancer according to the proctologist my doctor refered me. When proctologist first told me of my condition he made it seem dire (rightfully so), since my parents died of cancer several years ago. But, in hindsight I should have gotten a second opinion and not rush to have the procedure. I believe many doctors may feel threatened by this therapy should it hold true. If curing many diseases is as simple as IV Vitamin C then it could spell trouble financially for the medical establishment. Thanks Food Matters!

I have been using Vit C successfully for many years. As soon as flu like symptoms appear, I start on the Vit C, taking one an hour on the hour. It works brilliantly if you get to it early enough. I also find Vit C effective if I have had a shock or distressing news.

Hi Beverly, you could try Dr Bill Reeder at The Narrows Clinic in Hamilton for Vit C treatment in NZ.

I was diagnosed with ultiple Myeloma last year. I went through 6 months of chemo treatment and 2 tandum stem cell transplants. I am currently on weekly chemo IV as well as a 21 on 7 off oral chemo. I have been in remission since the first phase of my treatment and have continued to be in remission. I would like to learn more about alternative treatment for my cancer. I watched Foodmatters today and cried. What am I doing to my body?..How long do I really have with this cancer?...What can I do right now to help reverse all the damage I have been instructed to do to my body?

I am with a group that is interested in making a documentary on the positive effects of vitamin C, especially those outlined in Dr. Klenner's birthing studies. Would any one here who has experienced the amazing benefits be willing to be interviewed?

A recent TV newscast on a patient at Jefferson Hospital (access blocked on google!)confirmed the effectiveness of IV ascorbate in pancreatic cancer with dramatic improvement in quality of life, also in prostate cancer. Imagine, Steve Jobs and Pavarotti
would still be alive with a simple $100 /dose treatment!
