The World According to Monsanto

Genetic Modification of our food is here. It’s happening. Chances are you’re probably already eating it. Chances are equally likely that you don’t fully understand how GM food made it to your dinner plate. The World According to Monsanto is essential viewing for a confused public who deserves a say in what they eat...

The Great GM Debate is synonymous with other major controversies of our time and intrinsically linked with health and environmental issues. Amongst such heated debate and compelling arguments, the public is understandably confused. Opponents to genetic engineering are concerned with food safety, biodiversity, food supply monopoly and environmental disaster. Conversely, proponents claim that GM food is the solution to starvation and global food shortages – no small claim. After watching ‘The World According To Monsanto’ however, even the most obstinate sceptic will question whether GM giant Monsanto could possibly align with such altruistic purposes.

This candid documentary exposes the shocking malpractice of Monsanto- the agribusiness currently dominating ninety percent of the global GM seed market. With a corrupt past involving the manufacture of chemical monstrosities such as Agent Orange and PCBs, Monsanto’s alleged intention to ameliorate world hunger is tenuous at best. With patents preventing reuse of GM seeds, the tragic reality is that countless third world farmers have become enslaved to debt and dependence on Monsanto for a continued seed supply. One must also question whether Monsanto’s ‘Roundup-Ready’ Crops –which require excessive treatment with the chemical herbicide Roundup- is truly sustainable for the health of the people and environment.

The World According to Monsanto is an in-depth documentary that looks at the domination of the agricultural industry from one of the world’s most insidious and powerful companies. This is one of the most powerful, must-see films for anyone interested in the behind the scenes world of the food industry, and how just one world dominating corporation holds the keys and patents to much of the world’s food supply.

This is a beautiful film that shows an inspiring journey of Peter Proctor, whom many call the father of modern ‘biodynamics’, as he travels to India on a mission to help farmers who have been severely taken advantage of by Monsanto and its so-called ‘green revolution’. He travels to countless Indian farms and teaches them the 'biodynamic' principles of living self-sufficiently. You can’t help but feel called to plant your own garden after seeing this wonderfully inspiring film.

I love both these films. I share them with anyone who will watch them. You might also add a documentary called "America The Beautiful" to your list of great videos. This is a video about our american concept of beauty and what it is doing to our women and girls.

Excellent! Everyone should see this, regardless of lifestyle or eating philosophy. Education and boycotting GM foods are effective ways to combat Monsanto's goals. I'm concerned that unless there is a big enough outcry from citizens, Monsanto's political clout will eventually dominate to the point where citizens will no longer have a voice. GM information and labeling needs to be mandatory. Home gardening is becoming more and more critical; it may be our only option in the future for safe food.

I agree with Tony. Although I'm not sure if regarding political clout, we're not too late already. What's needed is a highly organised group to combat everything this company stand for. If you are reading this and you are in a small group. my advice would be to join with every other such group and fight together.

Excellent film revealing the modern evil, Monsanto. However, it should be put out on big screen cinema so more people can see it, like Food Inc. was. What it will take to destroy this corrupt giant is for the consumers of all GM foods in every country (that's us) to stand up to the governments in every country (who are supposed to serving us, not multi-national companies) and tell them we want them closed down. It will be difficult, but it is possible if we stand together in numbers that speak louder than words. What we're losing here is our independence.
