Sick For Profits

CIGNA’s Edward Hanway spends his holidays in a $13 million beach house in New Jersey. Meanwhile, regular Americans are routinely denied coverage for the care they need when they need it most. Welcome to the American health insurance industry. Instead of helping policyholders attain the health security they need for their families, big insurance companies get rich by denying coverage to patients.

This is exactly why I think we should move to a single payer health care system.

What about coverage for those of us who take care of ourselves thru good food, regular detoxing and concious healthy choices.....where is the coverage for accupunture, colon hydrotherapy, massage? How will this health care program take care of us?

It is inconceivable to me that we even have this discussion. The entire system, based on "germ theory" and underpinned with insurance is a fraud and failure. The total and complete elimination of germ theory and health insurance is our only answer. Each of us will be better off without allopathic medicine.

The last thing we need now is Government intervention. Where are the Insurance Commissioners??? They're part of the government system that's set up to protect the individuals from Insurance companies and we see that IS NOT working. We need to stop all insurance coverage and go back to paying for health care ourselves. Whenever you expect some other entity to take care of you for a fraction of the cost it will end up coming back to haunt you. Free and open markets are the only way to prevent fraud and corruption. If doctors and hospitals had to work hard and keep prices down, like any other business, in order to attract and keep customers that's when you'll see change.

Yeah, and we should also quit relying on government interventon for clean water and the roads and bridges on which we drive. There should be no government intervention in the workplace - no OSHA, no safety regulations and it just makes sense to allow kids to work in mines rather than productive adults. We should also quit having to pay for auto insurance and if we cause an accident which hurts or kills other people, c'est la vie. They should know not to drive on the same roads at the same time as ourselves. Seriously, these insurance companies seem to forget that it is OUR money they are using for their profits. It is not about using some other entity to take care of us. We pay into a system expecting that system to take care of us when we need it the most. Does anyone truly think that "anonymous" is going to let himself die on the side of a road because he can't afford health care? It's about as logical as assuming that someone in a life threatening emergency is going to choose to go to a hospital hundreds of miles away rather than the closer one which is the only one which serves his area. "Free and Open markets" gave us a bunch of Enron excutives price gouging Californians and laughing about how those grandmothers would die in the heat. It also gave us a finacial system which preyed upon the most vulnerable and eventually led to its own collapse. Corporations put profits ahead of people and the only choices for the consumer is of other sharks which do the same. Some regulation is needed.

It appears to me you have reached a crossroads in the greed that permeates through the entire American way.As great as America has been and the foundation the forefathers laid, greed has eroded the very understaning of the gratness that is created by a people together with common objectives lead by a government that utilizes the masses to create a better opportunity for all. I am a canadian and your media has been quick to villify our health care system, and although there is many areas that could be improved we do not turn a way anyone that is sick based on lifestyle, race, economics, or preexisting conditions. Are there abuses in the system? With out question. But name one thing in life that is perfect. I would suggest that by studying what is good about the system and then improving on it would be a better approach.Having said that however, any system that does not include peventative Medicine and still relies on the same old reactive medicine that is a great money maker for many but has proven to be very poor a actually healing anyhting will leave the system exposed to the same corruption that already exists. Simply put, if you dont get sick than you dont need a doctor and you certainly dont need the poisons that the pharmacuetial companies are peddling. Reward those that encourage resposibilty and prevention not those that continue to abuse themselves and the system. Those that are not willing to take responibility for their health are the very ones that drive up the cost. The program of fear that has been used to dupe the North American people into believing the doctor and his medications are the only way to have a healthy life must stop and focus our attention to prevention through nutrition, then healthcare will always be available for the extreme cases that happen. You dont change the oil in your car after the engine blows up. So why would you do that to your body?

Guys please find and see a documentary called 'Sicko' by Michael Moore. Amazing to learn on how we live here in the US.

Making money off the sick and dying is unethical and criminal. These people are criminals.
