The World According to Monsanto

The Great GM Debate is synonymous with other major controversies of our time and intrinsically linked with health and environmental issues. Amongst such heated debate and compelling arguments, the public is understandably confused. Opponents to genetic engineering are concerned with food safety, biodiversity, food supply monopoly and environmental disaster. Conversely, proponents claim that GM food is the solution to starvation and global food shortages – no small claim. After watching ‘The World According To Monsanto’ however, even the most obstinate sceptic will question whether GM giant Monsanto could possibly align with such altruistic purposes.

This candid documentary exposes the shocking malpractice of Monsanto- the agribusiness currently dominating ninety percent of the global GM seed market. With a corrupt past involving the manufacture of chemical monstrosities such as Agent Orange and PCBs, Monsanto’s alleged intention to ameliorate world hunger is tenuous at best. With patents preventing reuse of GM seeds, the tragic reality is that countless third world farmers have become enslaved to debt and dependence on Monsanto for a continued seed supply. One must also question whether Monsanto’s ‘Roundup-Ready’ Crops –which require excessive treatment with the chemical herbicide Roundup- is truly sustainable for the health of the people and environment.

The World According to Monsanto is an in-depth documentary that looks at the domination of the agricultural industry from one of the world’s most insidious and powerful companies. This is one of the most powerful, must-see films for anyone interested in the behind the scenes world of the food industry, and how just one world dominating corporation holds the keys and patents to much of the world’s food supply.
