The Marketing of Madness

"If you, a loved one, or anyone you know is taking drugs recommended by an MD or Psychiatrist for Anxiety, Depression, Bi-Polar, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive, Schizophrenia etc... then this film is an absolute must watch."
- James Colquhoun - Producer Director, 'Food Matters'

The 'Marketing of Madness' is the definitive documentary on the psychiatric drugging industry. Here is the real story of the high income partnership between psychiatry and drug companies that has created an $80 billion psychotropic drug profit centre.

But appearances are deceiving. How valid are psychiatrists’ diagnoses – and how safe are their drugs? Digging deep beneath the corporate veneer, this three-part documentary exposes the truth behind the slick marketing schemes and scientific deceit that conceal dangerous and often deadly sales campaigns.

In this film you'll discover that...

  • Many of the drugs side effects may actually make your ‘mental illness’ worse
  • Psychiatric drugs can induce aggression or depression
  • Some psychotropic drugs prescribed to children are more addictive than cocaine
  • Psychiatric diagnoses appears to be based on dubious science. Of the 297 mental disorders contained with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, none can be objectively measured by pathological tests. Mental illness symptoms within this manual are arbitrarily assigned by a subjective voting system in a psychiatric panel
  • It is estimated that 100 million people globally use psychotropic drugs
The Marketing of Madness exposes the real insanity in our psychiatric ‘health care’ system: profit-driven drug marketing at the expense of human rights.

This film plunges into an industry corrupted by corporate greed and delivers a shocking warning from courageous experts who value public health over dollar.

"Making a Kiling" fo me was a real eye opener. I no longer take the doctors opinion as gospel.

Fantastic ! I could not agree more with you, they are literally killing people with it too, as well as making a vast fortune with it, as they have bottomless pockets to market and market and then push it like government sanctioned drug pushers, and now they want to shove it down our throats, every single one of us like the trailer said; I find that that is the height of arogance, and one of the most violent exploitation there is, as it is a legalized chemical straight jacketed brain kill, almost the perfect trap. A well thought out profitable trap at that, bar non !

About time the public are starting to become aware of the dangers of doctors giving out drugs and how potentially dangerous they are to us.

This is so scary! I knew it already but hearing the professionals and other people involved in the industry discuss is incredibly disturbing.

I believe what it told in this movie. I have seen it go in spurts, changing with the drugs, that are popular at the time. Playing with the mind, chemically altering it's ability, is playing "Russian roulette" with the whole body's controls...it's computer system. Short circuit it or rewire the brain with mind altering meds and the results are totally unpredictable. I do NOT want to take that chance with MY brain/computer control!

i am a psychologist working in a hospital. the most disturbing element is that we KNOW that in many cases these drugs are not usefully at all, cause severe side effects and often get in the way of effective treatment with psycho education. For a small percentage of people drugs are a godsend in managing the maze of their minds and they would not be able to function otherwise, however this is a small percentage of people. Unfortunately drugs are often the FIRST line treatment instead of good old fashioned therapy for the majority. the consumer holds some responsibility here as we see people generally wanting a "quick" fix to life's problems and often a reluctance to address the underlying problems and issues. I constantly hear "I will be fine when the med's kick in" despite the obvious fact that they are depressed/anxious because of "life issues" rather than an unbalance in their brain. by the way seratonin (the feel good brain chemical) levels decrease in our brain when we 1) eat poor nutritional food 2) stay out of the sun 3) dont exercise 4) behave badly or live a powerless life. these are all things that YOU can address with the help of a good psychologist/therapist. The drug companies are similar to fast food companies in that they are all about profit under their rhetoric of caring for you. great to see that more education about the dangers of drugs are being produced. well done!

I wonder what you are supposed to do with a schizophrenic who has absolutely zero concept that they have a problem. Will not realise they can take natural alternatives. What can you do then? When they have been involuntaraly detained to stay safe?
please help, thank you. commented on 13-May-2010 10:03 PM5 out of 5 stars
to karen (psychologist), i hope you are reading this, if not, any psychologist or people out there who are able to help. i come from a small knit family and how unfortunate that 3 of my family members suffered from depression. the sickness was derived from insomia and later diverted into bipolar and depression. they have been on medication - they had to else things will repeat itself - medication was tried stopped before, it was OK but few months later, history will repeat itself. i realy hope that anyone out there who has such similar situation, anyone whose family member had depression before share with me how the sickness is being cured without taking these medication. it's scary as we do afterall know of its side effects. if there is one thing that we ever regret, it is not stopping them from visiting the psychiatric at the first place. but what can we say when you do not understand the pain of having insomia? it's heart breaking to see this happening to your own family and not able to do anything. how we wish this was just a bad dream.

I recently quite my job as a marketing manager for a company who fully supports pharmaceutical companies. I am on the other side of the fence and know drugs do not help people, only food matters.

this documentary says an awful lot more about american consumerism and the american corporate ethos than about mental health.

I sat down in amazement as I watched this documentary - sadness abound because my mother started with Valium in the 60's - my sister is now so screwed up from taking so many of these drugs - mental hospitals, jail, and every place wanted her medicated - she so many times refused only to be put in front of a board of psychiatrist to try and force her. I pray she stops these drugs, eats right, exercises and gets physically healthy so she can fight the fiend. I passed a copy to my friend this morning who is on one of the many cocktails for anxiety, he can't sleep has leg cramps, backaches etc...in hopes he stops taking them too.

In response to please help, thank you. I suffered from stress overload which caused insomnia which then turned to depression. I then developed physical problems such a s weight loss (7kgs in 2 weeks and I was already a low weight),dry mouth, flu to name but a few. I was already following a healthy life style and taking supplements but due to the enormous amount of stress, wasn't doing enough. Anyway, I ended up on lots of drugs, liquid food and eventually came right after 4 weeks. I didn't want drugs but couldn't function so took them knowing I would get off them which I did as soon as I could. Most people with depression are scared to loose the drugs and are frightened of going back to that dark place and it is hideous but I truly believe with the right food, some supplements, exercise & detoxing and support from family, it can be achieved.I couldn't eliminate all the stress but have done the best I can for now and am drug free and feeling so much better. I would recommend getting help with the insomnia first, no-one functions properly with out sleep as I found out. You can't just stop the drugs and hope you'll be ok, it takes so much more than that as websites such as these are telling us. Hope this helps you and your family as I know how painful it must be for you to watch your loved ones suffer.

It is truly heartbreaking when a person has a physical problem that they just can't resolve. I have done a lot of study on the situation and would be happy to offer it. Please email me and I'll send it to you. I also believe the dvd "Marketing of Madness" is a real eye-opener. Food Matters has done an excellent job of sharing what they have learned. Ten years ago, when I was living in the States, I was shocked to see on TV almost as many 'heavy duty' drugs commercials as there were for McDonald's. I remember very well that Zoloft commercial with the sad round thingy (featured in the documentary, btw) that walks shoulders down until...it gets its chemical imbalance fixed. The horrible thing was I believed that commercial - well, it was shown on TV, so I assumed some clever people had thought about protecting the audience. I believe certain changes must be made in the regulation of TV commercials and advertising of drugs in general - because people are simply zombied by TV advertising. You Americans did such a fantastic job banning tobacco commercials and changing people's minds about smoking! I hope with this documentary things can change for the better about mental health, too.

This is an excellent documentary although it is made from a Church of Scientology support group. It does make me question the material...

The Marketing of Madness- Are we all Insane?

There is no money in "normal".

From the makers of the award winning documentary "Making a Killing: The Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging".

This is the story of the high-income partnership between psychiatry and drug companies that has created an $80 billion psychotropic drug profit center.

It exposes psychiatry’s fraudulent diagnosis to further sell their drugs to “normal” people.

And it works. Psychiatrists and drug companies have created a profitable market making over $150,000 every single minute of the day.

But by publicizing diseases creating the illusion of widespread mental illness, how safe are the drugs psychiatrists are prescribing to treat it?

It’s the story of big money — drugs that fuel a $330 billion psychiatric industry, without a single cure. The cost in human terms is even greater — these drugs now kill an estimated 42,000 people every year. And the death count keeps rising.

Containing more than 175 interviews with lawyers, mental health experts, the families of victims and the survivors themselves, this riveting documentary rips the mask off psychiatric drugging and exposes a brutal money-making machine.

This high impact presentation, two years in the making, exposes the destruction created by psychiatrists upon every sector of our society.

Graphic footage from showing psychiatrists in action, eye-opening interviews with medical experts and moving stories from victims and their families, make this the most complete and devastating documentary of psychiatric abuse ever produced.

Every person has the right to know the cold, hard facts about psychiatry, its
practitioners and the threat they pose to our children.
